LAKELAND, Fla.—The Southeastern University men's basketball team defeated the Southeastern Baptist Chargers by a score of 92-52 to improve to 3-0 on the season.
After taking a 16-5 lead with 12:31 to go in the first half, the Fire never let the Chargers back into the game and held a double-digit advantage the remainder of the contest.
Southeastern Baptist put the first points on the board with a layup on their first possession, but the Fire responded with a 28-7 run to give them a 19-point lead with just nine minutes left in the first half.
SEU increased their advantage and took a 46-21 into halftime.
As a team the Fire shot 43.3% from the field in the first half with a 41.2% mark from 3-PT range. Southeastern forced 15 Charger turnovers in the half and took advantage, scoring 18 points off turnovers.
Sophomore Riley continued his impressive start to the season, scoring all 17 of his points in the opening half.
It was much of the same in the second half. The Fire went on a 15-0 run after the break to stretch their lead to 61-21. Sophomore
Reggie Mesidor got the half started with a three and senior
Isaiah Moody ended the run with an and-one.
For the game, Southeastern ended up shooting 48.4% from the field and converted on 14-of-32 shots from behind the arc. They also turned in a season best 45 bench points.
Transfer guard
Ralph Diaz notched 15 points and eight rebounds off the bench. Senior
Isaiah Moody filled the stat sheet with six points, six rebounds, three assists, and three steals.
Freshman
Deshaun Osborne scored a career-high ten points, converting on back to back 3-PT field goals in the second half.
Southeastern opens their conference schedule when they take the court next with Coastal Georgia traveling to Lakeland on Thursday, November 12
th at 7:30 pm.
