Men's Basketball Continues 2020-21 Slate with Two Home Games this Week

LAKELAND, Fla.—After taking down Florida College in their season opener last Thursday, the Southeastern University men's basketball team continues their 2020-21 campaign with two more contests scheduled for this week. The Fire will host their home opener on Thursday, November 5th at 7:30 pm against Brewton-Parker College, followed by another game in The Furnace on Saturday, November 7th at 5:00 pm against Southeastern Baptist.

In Southeastern's 71-59 win over the Florida College Falcons, reigning TSC Freshman of the Year Riley Minix picked up where he left off last season with 26 points, 17 rebounds, and four assists. This marked the ninth career double-double for Minix.

Sophomore Reggie Mesidor and transfer senior Ralph Diaz also tallied double-digit point totals. Mesidor scored 12 points and added four rebounds, four assists, and four steals. Diaz, meanwhile, added 11 points and five rebounds in 24 minutes off the bench.

After one game the Fire rank in the top ten of the NAIA in several categories. They are second in free-throw percentage (90%), third in opponent field-goal percentage (32.3%), sixth in opponent scoring per game (59.0), and eighth in assists per game (21.0).

After a 7-23 record a season ago, the Brewton-Parker College Barons have started the 2020-21 with a 1-1 record with their lone win coming against fellow TSC member Webber International. Junior guard Jack Gray is a player to watch for the Barons, through two games this season he is averaging 18 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 1.5 assists. This will be the first all-time meeting between the two programs.

Southeastern Baptist College enters this week with an 0-5 record to start their season after finishing 5-25 last season. The Chargers relied on their bench for offense in the Running Eagles Classic hosted by Life University. Southeastern Baptist had a player in both games reach 20 points off the bench as Jacobi York scored 21 points against Life and Daylyn Croom totaled 22 points against Bryan College. This matchup also marks the first time these squads have met all-time.
