LAKELAND, Fla.—The Southeastern University women's basketball team is set to continue their 2020-21 campaign this week with a road matchup at Asbury College in Wilmore, Kentucky on Tuesday, November 3
rd at 6:00 pm.
The Fire opened their season with a dominant 96-51 victory over the Florida National Conquistadors last Wednesday. This marked the seventh straight season-opening win for the Fire.
SEU capitalized on Florida National's mistakes, scoring 29 points off of 26 turnovers. Transfer guard
Bekki Kalaydjiev and sophomore
Haley Howarth played key roles in the win as they combined to total 40 points, eight rebounds, seven assists, and six steals.
Madi Hecox and
Angelina Hammond contributed 31 combined points, 13 rebounds, six assists, and four steals.
Jade Odom chipped in ten points and a team-high five steals.
As a team, the Fire rank first in the NAIA in Assist/Turnover ratio at 2.3 and sit at fourth in turnover margin (16).
After a 20-11 record last season, Asbury College dropped their first game of 2020-21 to University of the Cumberlands 95-67. Zaria Napier scored a team-high 19 points in the loss, going 6-of-13 from the field including 2-of-4 beyond the arc. As a team the Eagles shot 42.1% from 3-PT range, placing them tenth in the NAIA in that category. In the lone previous matchup between these two programs, Asbury defeated Southeastern 73-56 on November 8
th, 2012.
