Football Heads to Ave Maria for Regular Season Finale

LAKELAND, Fla.—The sixth and final game of the 2020 Southeastern University Football season will finally take place Thursday night at Ave Maria University.

The game was originally slated to be played on October 17th but was moved by mutual agreement of the participating schools. It also ends a 25-day layoff for the team that will take the field for the first time since a 43-10 win over St. Thomas on Homecoming.

On defense, the Fire have been excellent this season having held three of its six opponents to under 200 total yards. Against the pass, the Fire have yet to allow 200 yards in a game. They've also created 10 takeaways this season.

The offense had its best showing in the run game against St. Thomas in terms of both attempts and yards with 204 yards on 42 carries. Four different backs each had a carry of at least 10 yards in the game. Bryan Bell finished with 90 yards on nine carries, and Lorine Parker with 82 on 12.

Southeastern opened the 2020 season at home against Ave Maria, cruising to a 34-0 victory. Junior quarterback Cooper Jones had one of his best games, throwing for 356 yards and had a hand in all five Fire touchdowns. The offense racked up 516 yards and only faced seven third downs in the game.

The Gyrenes ended a two-game slide on Saturday with a 26-14 win at Webber International. Charles Philias rushed for 106 yards and a touchdown and quarterback Will Tate rushed for another 43 and an additional score. Tate also had 154 yards and a touchdown through the air.

Per Ave Maria attendance policy, admission is restricted to guests of AMU football players, AMU faculty/staff, and a limited number of AMU students. Live video is available at The Sun Digital Network.
