Lakeland, Fla.- The 11-0 Southeastern University women's soccer team will head into postseason play this week as they face off against the University of South Carolina Beaufort at home on Tuesday at 7 p.m in the Sun Conference Tournament Semifinals.
The Fire have been untouchable this year under the new leadership of first year head coach
Alan Berrios and have allowed only five goals through 11 games. Far outranking their opponents in every statistical category, the Fire offensive has been unstoppable with 44 goals, 29 assists and an average of four goals per game. Sophomore
Naira Lopez has been the key contributor to the abundance of Fire goals after registering 11 assists which ranks second in the nation and first in the Sun Conference. Lopez has also found the back of the net eight times this season second only to senior
Aisha Solorzano who has a total of 11 goals on the season. Defensively, the Fire has been led by junior goal keeper
Holly Eddins who has allowed only five goals all season and has registered 33 saves giving her an .868 save percentage.
The USCB Sand Sharks are currently 5-5 on the season and 4-5 in the Sun Conference and advanced to the semifinals after a 3-2 victory over St. Thomas in a double overtime thriller in the Sun Conference quarterfinal match. The Sand Shark offense is led by Marcela Shartouny who has registered a team high four goals.
The last matchup between these two teams came earlier this season in the form of a 3-2 overtime victory for the Fire in South Carolina where
Mashell Rodriguez had the game winning goal in overtime to aid the Fire in maintaining their unbeaten record. Senior
Summer Rusher and
Jennifer Luna also contributed to the victory with a goal each. At home, the Fire took down the Sand Sharks 3-0 in their last matchup in Lakeland.
With a semifinal victory on Tuesday, the Fire will advance to the Sun Conference Championship on Friday at 7 p.m. on their home field.
