AVE MARIA, Fla.- In a back and forth battle of Sun Conference men's soccer, the Southeastern University men's soccer team bested the Ave Maria University Gyrenes 2-1 on the road.
The Fire controlled possession from the onset of the contest, earning two corner kick opportunities within the first seven minutes of play.
SEU capitalized on chances early, as graduate midfielder
Paulos Beraki buried a deflected shot into the back of the net in the 9th minute to put the Fire ahead of the Gyrenes 1-0. The goal was Beraki's third of the season.
Despite SEU outshooting AMU 6-1 over the next 18 minutes of action, it was the Gyrenes who found the equalizer in the 27th minute to knot things up 1-1. The Fire out-shot the Gyrenes 2-0 to close out the first half, however both teams remained tied 1-1 heading into the locker room.
It only took Southeastern 2:46 into the second half to earn the go-ahead goal, as senior midfielder
Evandro Henrique found the left side of the net for his second score of the season to put the Fire up 2-1 on the Gyrenes in the 47th minute.

Jonathan Wojciki made two crucial saves throughout the remainder of the match to preserve the one goal advantage.
The Fire return to the SEU Soccer Complex next Wednesday night to host the Keiser University Seahawks. Match time is set for 7:00 p.m.
