BRUNSWICK, Ga.- The Southeastern University volleyball team battled throughout the early goings, however, the Fire came up short 3-0 to the College of Georgia Mariners in a road Sun Conference match Wednesday night.
SEU kept pace with CCGA throughout the first set thanks to 12 Mariners' attacking errors, trailing just 17-16 and not trailing the Mariners by more than three up until that point in the set. However, the Mariners pulled away on a 5-0 run and closed out the first set 25-23.Â
Both teams hit much more effectively in the second set, as the Fire totaled a .353 hitting percentage, while the Mariners recorded a .297 mark.Â
Junior
Maggie Seagren notched seven of her team-leading 11 kills in the second set. Coastal Georgia went on an 11-2 run late in the set to take a commanding 24-16 lead and despite a late burst from the Fire, closed out the set 25-20.
The Mariners turned in their best set of hitting in the third, going .343 as a unit. The Fire trailed by as much as 20-9 in the third set before CCGA closed things out 25-16 in the final session.

Emily Boehlein each totaled four blocks for Southeastern. Freshman
Ashtyn O'Shea led the Fire in assists at 15, while
Fabianne Besosa topped SEU in digs with 13. Seagren had nine digs to go along with her team high mark in kills.
SEU looks to bounce back on Saturday, as they host the Life University Running Eagles inside The Furnace. Match time is set for 10:00 a.m.
