Box Score BLUFFTON, S.C.- It was another dramatic win for the Southeastern University women's soccer team, as the Fire edged the USCB Sand Sharks 3-2 in overtime at Fin Land Field to remain unbeaten at 9-0 on the season and capture their second-consecutive win in extra time.
The Sand Sharks did a solid job at limiting Southeastern to shots from distance in the first half, as just four of the 14 first-half shots by SEU were on frame.
After a scoreless first-half, USCB struck first with a goal in the 48th minute to take a 1-0 advantage.
The Fire quickly evened things up, as redshirt-junior forward
Summer Rusher provided a tremendous spark off the bench. Rusher finished a ball from junior
Victoria Moran to even things up 1-1 in the 51st minute.
SEU got the go-ahead goal late in the second half when the reigning NAIA National Offensive Player of the Week
Jennifer Luna found the back of the net off a pass from
Naira Lopez in the 82nd minute to put the Fire ahead 2-1.
However, USCB tied things back up 2-2 just 21 seconds later with another goal.
After 90 minutes of action, the Fire and the Sand Sharks headed to overtime.
When it looked like the two teams were potentially heading to another extra session, junior midfielder
Mashell Rodriguez ended the game with a golden goal in the 97th minute to earn Southeastern the 3-2 victory.
The Fire are back on the road Saturday night, as they head to Lake Wales to take on the Warner University Royals. Match time is set for 8:00 p.m.
