MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. - The No. 20 ranked Southeastern men's basketball team lost their second conference game of the season this Thursday night against St. Thomas.
Starting the game, the Fire and Bobcats were toe-to-toe as the game was tied at seven. A three-pointer and two-point field goal by STU put them ahead by five points with 16:22 remaining.
Two free-throws each made by Devon Ford and Karl Jeanty cut the Fire's deficit to one point with 13:42 to go in the half.
However, within the next 1:16, STU's Ahmad Gilbert responded with back-to-back three-pointers to give the Bobcats a seven-point lead.
Again, Southeastern made up some ground as in the 17th minute of play, STU only led by one. Yet, the Bobcats again answered back with a made free-throw attempt and back-to-back threes, giving them an eight-point advantage.
Going into the break, STU lead 40-31 over SEU after 20 minutes of play. The Bobcats were shooting 50.0% from the three-point line, with eight out of 16 attempts made.
Leading the Fire was Riley Minx with 13 points and two blocks. Minx, Jeremy Oppenheimer and Ford each recorded four rebounds after the first frame.
Returning from the intermission, the Bobcats continued to have offensive success as they were shooting 50% from the field and from beyond the arc. While Southeastern was shooting 31.4% in the field and 18.2% from the three-point line in the second half.
At the final whistle, the Bobcats defeated the Fire 80-63.
Minx finished the night with 18 points, eight rebounds and two blocks. Following Minx in points was Isaiah Moody with 10 total.
The Fire look to bounce back as they return to the Furnace on February 1st as they host Florida Memorial. The game is set to begin at 7 p.m.
