LAKELAND, Fla.—Winning seven of 10 matches is usually good enough for a win, but getting bonus points in five of those ensures it.
Southeastern improved to 14-7 on the year with a 32-10 win over Cumberland University, scoring a pair of first period pins, two major decisions, and a forfeit.
"We wrestled tough and did a good job getting to our offense and scoring points," said coach
Brandon Jorge. "We were also pretty stingy and didn't give up a lot of takedowns, which we've been focusing on."
Olson Delisca got the Fire on the board at 133, scoring a pin just 1:24 into the match. At 149,
Andreus Bond broke a 6-6 tie with a 12-2 major decision, getting a takedown, four nearfall points, and a riding time bonus right at the end to pick up a bonus point.
Drew Bowker picked up an escape in the final 25 seconds of the 184-pound match to get momentum going again for the Fire, which led to
Blake Rypel getting his first win with the Fire, and doing so with a pin just 20 seconds into the match.
"We're tough up and down the lineup, but our new guys at the top have made an immediate impact," said Jorge.
Alton Meeks closed the day with a 10-2 major decision at 285.
In the matches that went a full seven minutes, the Fire scored 42 individual points.
The Fire will host Brewton-Parker on Friday at 7 p.m. in the final home dual of the year.
