AVE MARIA, Fla.—The No. 20 ranked Southeastern men's basketball team went on the road to defeat RV Ave Maria 92-72. The win extends their win-streak to four games and improves their record to 15-5 overall, with an 8-1 record in conference play. The Fire used a balanced effort to earn the victory as six players scored at least ten points.
The two squads battled early but with the scored nodded up at 19, the Fire used an 11-2 run to take a 32-21 lead with just over seven minutes left in the first half. Southeastern kept attacking the Gyrenes with multiple looks, resulting in six players scoring at least four points just over halfway through the opening half. The Fire would head to the locker room with a 12-point halftime lead.
Transfer senior Blake Morrow sparked the Fire off the bench with 12 first half points, he would finish the night with a game-high 22 points. Collectively, Southeastern shot 50% from the field, 42.9% from 3-PT range, and 66.7% from the free-throw line in the first half.
Southeastern didn't let Ave Maria get close and stretched the lead to as much as 26 in the second half. Junior Isaiah Moody came off the bench and scored 12 points in the second half to help the Fire close out the Gyrenes. Moody ended the night with 16 points, four assists, three rebounds, and three steals.
Riley Minix and Karl Jeanty each totaled double-doubles in the winning effort. Minix notched 14 points and 12 rebounds and Jeanty tallied 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Senior Jeremy Oppenheimer scored 13 points while freshman Reggie Mesidor finished with 10 points.
The Fire return to The Furnace on Thursday January 23rd at 7:30 pm when they host Thomas University.
