Simmons Makes Program History Again as Fire Cruise Past Seahawks

Taylah Simmons Scores 45 as No. 2 Southeastern Routs Keiser

LAKELAND, Fla.- It is not uncommon for a program record to be eclipsed, just not typically multiple times in the same week. SEU women's basketball junior forward Taylah Simmons totaled 45 points to set a new single-game program record for points scored for the second time in three days as the No. 2 Fire cruised to a 115-59 win over the Keiser University Seahawks on Saturday night.

Strong starts out of the locker room were key for SEU, who outscored KU 29-13 in the first quarter and 38-7 in the third quarter after the halftime break.

Simmons set her pace early on, scoring 16 points through the first 10 minutes of action.

A 16-6 SEU run to close out the first quarter capped of the big period for the Fire.

The Fire scored 20 points off of 17 Seahawks' turnovers in the first half. Keiser committed a total of 29 giveaways on the night.

SEU held a 51-26 advantage over KU at the intermission.

The Fire opened the third quarter on an astounding 27-3 run.

Southeastern held a Keiser team that was shooting 37.8% from three-point range heading into the contest to just 24.1% from behind the arc (7-29).

Simmons added nine rebounds, three assists, two blocks, and a steal to her 45-point day. Junior forward M'caela Sellers scored 14 while hauling in six boards and registering two stuffed shots of her own.

Sophomore guard Reagan Linster totaled 13 points in the start and also dished out three helpers. Senior center Marlena Schmidt notched her third double-double of the season, bucketing 12 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.

Junior guard Madi Hecox scored an SEU career-high 10 points as a reserve, going a perfect 3-3 from behind the arc.

Up next, the Fire hit the road to take on the Ave Maria University Gyrenes next Saturday. Tip-off is set for 2:00 p.m. ET.
