Wrestling Responds from Early Loss to Advance to Placement Matches at National Duals

LOUISVILLE, Ky.—The Fire wrestling team advanced to Saturday's placement matches at the NWCA NAIA National Duals at Freedom Hall by picking up two big wins in the consolation bracket following a first round loss.

Southeastern shutout Brewton-Parker 41-0 after dropping a 28-15 decision to Providence, then scored an upset over No. 5 Oklahoma City in an elimination match by the score of 33-6.

The 10th-ranked Fire held a 15-10 lead over Providence with three matches left. The Argos scored pins in each of the remaining three to come away with the win.

"I said after that match that it was done and over with and now we need to respond, and we bounced back in a big way, and hopefully it carries into tomorrow," said coach Brandon Jorge.

Dylan Chatterton began his 3-0 day with a technical fall over No. 20 Boone Giulo, and was the first bonus point win of the day for SEU, and put the Fire up 11-7 at the halfway point.

Isaac Crowell was also 3-0 during the day, and came away with a 9-7 decision against No. 12 Lucas Nelson to start the match against Brewton-Parker. However, the highlight of his day was getting a takedown 19 seconds into the first sudden victory period against No. 5 Montana Moon to pick up a 6-4 win.

Olson Delisca followed the lead of Crowell, getting a takedown with five seconds left in sudden victory to finish his day 3-0.

"To have Isaac come out against the No. 5 guy and tough out a win was huge, then Olson doing what Olson does in fighting through tough situations and taking care of business was a tone setter for us," said Jorge.

With the Fire leading Oklahoma City 12-0, 12th-ranked Andreus Bond pinned No. 16 Connor Holman to put Southeastern up 18-0 pull all momentum in their favor.

Chatterton helped the Fire go 3-for-3 in matches that went beyond seven minutes as the third-ranked 157-pounder scored a 4-2 win over No. 11 Jon McGowan in a tiebreaker.

Southeastern will take on No. 3 Campbellsville on Saturday at 9 a.m. with the winner advancing to the fifth-place match and loser to the seventh-place match against either Lindsey Wilson or Providence.
