Volleyball Hosts Two TSC Matches This Week

LAKELAND, Fla. - Following a 3-1 victory over Brewton-Parker, the Fire will host two Sun Conference opponents, Coastal Georgia and Johnson & Wales. All teams have played a total of three conference games on the season.

The Fire:

Southeastern comes into this weeks conference matches trying to bounce back from their two-game TSC losing streak against St. Thomas and Ave Maria. Freshman, Grace Ball leads SEU with a total of 161 digs on the season. The Fire ranks 28th in the NAIA for digs per game (18.260). Senior, Emily Boehlein leads the team in total kills (111), averaging 2.7 per set. In her last game versus the Barons, Boehlein recorded nine total kills. The native of Gainesville, Fla. ranks 18th in the NAIA for hitting percentage (.335).

The Mariners:

College of Coastal Georgia is 8-5 on the season, with a winning record of 2-1 in conference play. The Mariners have earned victories over Sun Conference rivals Warner 3-1 and Ave Maria 3-0. Junior setter Ashley Kot leads CCGA with a total of 203 assists, averaging 5.3 assists per set. In their last game versus Ave Maria, Kot tallied a total of 34 assist in the match. Defensive leader for the Mariners is senior libero, Yorelis Rios Gonzalez who leads Coastal Georgia and the conference in digs, with a total of 206 on the season, with an average of 5.3 per set.

Previous Meetings:

SEU and CCGA have met a total of 12 times. Each team with six victories and six defeats. The first time these two teams met was back in 2011, Southeastern beat CCGA 3-1 in Brunswick. The Fire have won every home game played against the Mariners. Last year, Coastal Georgia earned a 3-1 victory over the Fire in The Sun Conference Tournament, to knock the Fire out of the tournament and end their season.

The Wildcats:

The Wildcats have not recorded a win from an away game yet, and are on a seven-game losing streak. The Wildcats rank third in the conference for service aces per set. Senior Sharell Narin averages .4 aces per set, and has tallied a total of 16 aces so far in the season. JWU has a hard upcoming schedule this week, as they play three games before arriving in Lakeland, Fla. to play the Fire. One of the games against TSC opponent Keiser. Sophomore setter Vanessa Orozco leads the team with a total of 236 assists, averaging 6.6 assists per set. 

Previous Meetings:

The first time the Fire and the Wildcats met was on 10-15-16. Southeastern has played Johnson & Wales a total of eight times, and has won all eight games in three sets.
