LAKELAND, Fla. - Southeastern earned their eighth victory of the season, with a 3-1 defeat over Brewton-Parker. With the match tied at one, the Fire offense came alive to push Southeastern past the Barons (25-8, 23-25, 25-11, 25-9).
Southeastern won the first set 25-8 over the Barons, with senior Emily Kalmink leading the team through the first set with a hitting percentage of .750. SEU went on a seven point streak, and then shortly after, went on an eight point run to sustain the first set.
All of the Fire's roster entered the game by the second set. Unfortunately, the Barons ended with a 25-23 victory over SEU. Brewton-Parker registered 19 kills in the second, compared to the Fire's total of 12. Leading BPC was Taylor Scarbrough with a hitting percentage of .500 and Marina Dennis with a total of 12 assists.
During the third set, Southeastern posted 13 kills with 5 errors and a .353 attack percentage. In contrast, SEU had a combined total of 19 kills in the first two sets.
The Fire picked up where they left off in the fourth, jumping out to a 12-3 lead, taking advantage of several Barons errors. Southeastern finished the final set with a ten point streak, taking the final set 25-9.
Sophomore, Maggie Seagren ended the day with a .750 hitting percentage. Emily Boehlein totaled 10 kills and a .562 hitting percentage. Senior, Sarah Castillo finished with a total of 23 assists out of 37 assists. The Fire finished with a total of 42 kills and 10 total blocks.
Southeastern are back in action on September 25th against College of Coastal Georgia. The match is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Furnace.
