Men's Soccer Seeking to Build Momentum Early in Season

LAKELAND, Fla. – A week after defeating Montreat College on the road in double overtime 2-1 and an exhibition win against NCAA Division II St. Leo 1-0 in double overtime, the No. 25 ranked Southeastern University men's soccer team looks to keep building momentum early in the season. SEU hits the road to square off against Talladega College Thursday before coming back home to take on Brewton-Parker College on Saturday.

FIRE FOCUS:
  • Graduate forward Jake Van Der Luit had a busy week as he scored two game winning goals. The first coming against Montreat College in double overtime, part of a two-goal performance. The second game winner also coming in double overtime facing St. Leo in an exhibition.
  • Van Der Luit's goals sits him at 83 career points.
  • Freshman Carlos Curado recorded his first win as a goalkeeper in his first start, notching five saves in the win against Montreat.
ALL-TIME:
  • When Southeastern faces Talladega and Brewton-Parker, it will be the first meeting in program history.
THE TORNADOES:
  • Talladega is 1-3-1 on the season after their 2-1 win against Fisk University.
  • The Tornadoes are looking to fill the void left by Matheus Severino and Victor Pomeli, their top two point scorers from a year ago who had 16 and 12, respectively.
THE BARONS:
  • Brewton-Parker is looking for their first win of the year as they are 0-2-1 coming into their matchup with the Fire.
  • Goal leader from 2018 Nathan Skaggs returns for the Barons this year after netting seven a year ago and has one goal on the year thus far.
  • Baron newcomer Ermin Omeragic leads the team with two goals early in the season.
  • Through three games, freshman goalkeeper Bailey Pittman leads the Barons in saves with 11.
