LAKELAND, Fla.—It's been 10 days since the Southeastern University volleyball team has taken the court, thanks to Hurricane Dorian threatening the area.
With a 6-2 record during play at the Faulkner and Life invitationals, the Fire head into Sun Conference play, opening with fellow defending regular season champion Webber International at home Wednesday night.
The Fire lead The Sun Conference in blocking at 1.6 per set, and are second in hitting percentage at .170.
Emily Boehlein has contributed in both areas, hitting a conference-best .310, and averaging .4 blocks per set.
Emily Kalmink is leading the league in blocking for the second consecutive year, currently at .9 per set.
Webber International is currently 3-3 on the year under first year head coach Gretchen Hand. Defensively, Nayrelis Pantoja Santos is the conference leader in digs per set at 6.7. She also led the league last year at six digs per set.
Saturday, the Fire will head to Miami Gardens to face St. Thomas, which is off to a 3-5 start to the season heading into Wednesday's game against Florida Memorial.
The Bobcats' record is slightly deceiving, having played No. 4 Missouri Baptist, No. 10 Eastern Oregon, and No. 22 Bellevue. STU also faced a receiving votes squad in Madonna. Arianna Bolinger ranks fifth in the conference in kills per set at 2.8 and is third in service aces per set at .6.
