Volleyball Heads to Marietta for Four-Game Set

LAKELAND, Fla.—Following a successful trip to the Faulkner Invitational, the Fire volleyball team will head to Life University for its second four-game invitational of the year.

The Fire posted a 4-0 record in Montgomery for the second consecutive year, which included a five-set comeback win over William Carey to start the day Saturday. The 3-0 victory over Truett McConnell was the 99th by SEU under coach Audrey Goldsberry, who is in her sixth season as head coach. She would become just the second coach in Fire volleyball history to win 100 or more matches.

Leading the way for the Fire was junior Emily Boehlein, who was named to the all-tournament team. The Gainesville native totaled a team-best 48 kills over the weekend, hitting .304. Boehlein also recorded 35 digs, posting double-double efforts against William Carey and Truett McConnell.

In the back row, Grace Ball had a solid debut with the Fire, racking up 61 total digs and had four aces.

This weekend, the Fire head to Marietta, Ga. for the Life University Running Eagles Classic, where they went 3-1 last year.

Southeastern will face Freed Hardeman and Life on Friday before taking on Brenau and Fisk on Saturday.

Freed Hardeman opened its season on Monday with a 3-0 win over Crowley's Ridge at home. FHU hit .330 as a team with Claire Walker leading the way with 16 kills and a .481 attacking percentage. In the previous five meetings between SEU and Freed Hardeman, FHU has won four.

The host Eagles are 2-2 after traveling to Faulkner as well. Life had two common opponents in William Carey and Faulkner and went five sets with each. The Eagles dropped a 3-2 decision to William Carey in their first match and won a 3-2 match against Faulkner in their second. Mary Zimmerman was named to the all-tournament team with 50 kills and nine blocks, hitting .316 in four matches.

Taylor Parrish had 205 assists during the Faulkner Invitational, averaging 10.8 per set.

This will be Southeastern's second look at Brenau after a 3-0 victory last Friday. The Golden Tigers went 0-4 at Faulkner, dropping all 12 sets it played. Rachel Hodges had seven of her 19 kills on the weekend against the Fire, and had an ace and a block as well.

Fisk took part in the MidAmerica Nazarene Tournament last weekend, dropping all four of its matches, but to solid competition. Ana Gross recorded 41 digs, averaging 4.6 per set over the weekend, and Tyler Webb was the top passer at 6.17 assists per set.

These will be the final matches Southeastern will play before its home opener on September 3rd against Johnson University.

Live video and live stats will be available for all four matches in Marietta.
