LAKELAND, Fla.—Just two doubleheaders remain for Southeastern in 2019, with two games at home on Wednesday and two on the road on Saturday.
The Fire are looking to end the season on a better note, having dropped eight of their last nine and will miss The Sun Conference Tournament for the first time.
Southeastern will play host to Coastal Georgia Wednesday afternoon, having split with the Mariners back in March in Brunswick. The Fire dominated the first game of the doubleheader, cruising to a 9-1 victory in six innings.
Kristen Schwartz and
Bailee Moll each had three hits, with Schwartz belting one of her team-leading four homers this season.
In the circle,
Hannah Bodenhorn was excellent, striking out nine in the complete game victory. The senior from Nashville has posted the best in-conference ERA this season at 0.96 and ranks second in TSC opponent batting average at .195.
Moll has been the top hitter this season, posting a .355 average in league play with eight doubles, a homer, and eight RBIs. The third baseman has an OPS of .963 against league opponents.
Coastal Georgia ranks second in the conference behind Warner in team ERA at 2.27, and is fifth in team batting average (.292) and RBIs per game (3.9). The Mariners are second in runs scored per game in conference play at four.
Two-way standout Paige Alt is second on the team in hitting at .375 and has a team-high 13 wins in the circle this season with a 2.13 ERA.
The final games of the season will be Saturday at Ave Maria, whom the Fire also split with two weeks ago, taking the first game 9-0 and dropping the second 4-2. Five of Southeastern's 11 hits in the first game were for extra bases, which included a two-run homer by former Gyrene
Cheyenne Benson-Ross.
Ave Maria is 3-7 over its last 10, and have posted a team ERA just under five this season and a team batting average of .265. Brittany Blizzard lead the pitching staff in wins (6), innings pitched (81.1), and strikeouts (27). Angela Cataldo has been the top hitter at .354 with six doubles. She had two hits against Southeastern during the doubleheader on April 13
th.
With a 4-0 week, the Fire will record their seventh consecutive season with a winning record.
