WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Fire softball team dropped both games of the doubleheader versus Keiser University. Southeastern fell in the extra inning of the first match up, surrendering one run in the eighth to go down 2-1. In the second game, the Seahawks kept the Fire quiet as they were defeated 5-0 respectively.
GAME ONE:
It took a little while for both teams to get on the board, however the Fire were the first to strike in the top of the third. Leading off for the Fire was Natalie Hughes, who hit a double to left field. Southeastern brought in pinch runner, Jaz Szierer for Hughes. Junior, Hannah Bonner hit an RBI double to right field to bring Szierer home and help the Fire take a 1-0 advantage.
Keiser answered back in the bottom of the frame, knotting the game 1-1. With one out, KU hit a double down the left field line and then proceeded to steal third. With two outs, the Seahawks hit a sacrifice fly to help bring home the player on third. The score remained 1-1 until the bottom of the extra inning.
The Fire struggled to bring in one run in the top of the frame. Due to the international tie-breaker rule, KU started the extra inning with one runner on second. Keiser bunted, however reached due to fielding error which also advanced a player to third. With players on both corners, one of KU's best Avery Miller, hit a sacrifice fly to right field to bring in one run for the Seahawks and win the game 2-1.
GAME TWO:
The Seahawks got on the board early in the game, as they took a 1-0 lead after the first inning of play. KU lead off with a bunt single and then stole second. With no outs, Keiser player grounded out, but advanced a player onto third. The Seahawks then hit an RBI single to take the lead over the Fire.
The score remained 1-0 until the bottom of the third. Keiser lead off with a bunt single and then would hit a sacrifice bunt to advance the player onto second. With two outs and a runner on second, KU hit a single to left field to put players on the corners. The Seahawks then hit an RBI single to center field which advanced KU lead 2-0.
Keiser would finish off the game scoring a run in the bottom of the fourth, fifth, and sixth inning with an RBI sacrifice bunt, a solo home run, and an RBI single to left field to take game two of the doubleheader 5-0 against Southeastern.
The Fire are back in action on April 24th, as they return home to play a doubleheader versus Coastal Georgia. Game times are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.
