LAKE WALES, Fla. –The Fire and the Royals were in search for their first Sun Conference victory of the season, both teams were 0-2 in-conference play. SEU defeated the Royals 4-2 in seven innings in the opening contest, however fell to the competition 8-0 in five innings.
GAME ONE:
The Fire struck in the top of the third.
Bailee Moll was hit by a pitch which put her on first base. Then, a sacrifice bunt by
Heather Faulk helped advance Moll to second.
Haleigh Harrell hit an RBI single to right field on the tenth pitch to bring Moll to home plate. The Fire took the first lead of the game 1-0.
Warner responded in the bottom of the fourth, to tie the game 1-1. The Royals lead off with a double to left field and then, a sacrifice bunt would help advance WU player to third base. Warner would hit another double to bring in the runner on third.
At the top of the fifth inning, Southeastern answered back with a leadoff double to right field. Faulk would reach on an error, which helped Moll score for SEU to retake the lead 2-1. In the bottom of the frame, the Fire would keep the Royals quiet by putting them down in order.
In the bottom of the sixth, a double to right field would get a Warner player on base. Then, an RBI single to left field would help Warner tie up the game 2-2.
SEU had bases loaded at the top of the seventh, when
Sam Holcomb would hit an RBI single to bring Bonner to home plate. Also,
Lauren Watters would hit an RBI single to left field to bring in Harrell to solidify a 4-2 victory over the Royals.
GAME TWO:
The Fire struggled in the second contest of the day against Sun Conference rivals, Warner University. The game would remain scoreless until the bottom of the second inning, when the Royals would bring in four runs to proceed 4-0 in the game. Two of the four points were scored due to defensive errors from the Fire.
The Royals would shut down SEU's offense and further their lead by two points, earning one point each in the bottom of the third and fourth inning.
Warner would start the bottom of the fifth frame with a double to left field. Then, hit a sacrifice bunt to advance Royals player to third base. Due to another Southeastern error, Warner would reach on fielder's choice and advance to second. With players on second and third base, Warner would hit an RBI triple to bring in both players and advance their lead to 8-0.
The Fire are back in action on March the 18
th, as they return home to play a doubleheader versus No. 21 Grand View. Game times are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.
