LAKELAND, Fla.—The Fire wrestling team will look to snap a three-match losing streak when they travel to Georgia to do battle with two Mid-South Conference opponents on Saturday. No. 13 Southeastern is scheduled to face Midway University before taking on Brewton-Parker College to finish the dual portion of their 2019 campaign.
This season SEU has faced a brutal schedule, wrestling 12 teams that were ranked or receiving votes at the time of the matches. In those competitions, the Fire have gone 6-6 with a pair of victories over top-10 squads.
Southeastern (10-7, 2-3 MSC) will first compete against Midway, who has struggled in its inaugural season of wrestling. The Eagles currently sit at 1-6 (0-5 MSC) and have lost each of their last six contests by at least 18 team points.
At the conclusion of the match versus Midway, the Fire will wrestle Brewton-Parker College. The Barons (2-6, 0-5 MSC) have also struggled to find their footing in a tough Mid-South Conference; however, the match with SEU has the potential to feature three ranked matchups.
At 165, BPC will likely send out their highest-ranked wrestler, Nathen Pristavec. Pristavec, who is ranked third nationally, could face
Stephen Kelle, who is currently 19
th.
In the 184-lb class, eighth-ranked Brooks Climmons could wrestle 12
th-best
Jason Davis, who is 10-3 this year.
The final potential ranked matchup could feature the two wrestlers tied for tenth in the individual rankings, Brewton-Parker's David Hamil and Southeastern's
Luis Peguero. Peguero is coming off of a 1-1 performance at the Reinhardt and Cumberlands duals, while posting a 7-5 overall mark this season.
The match against Midway is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m., while the dual versus Brewton-Parker is set for 3:00 p.m.
