Big Second Quarter Leads to Women's Basketball Road Win

LAKE WALES, Fla.—The Southeastern University women's basketball team went on the road to defeat the Warner Royals by a score of 107-45 to improve their record to 10-2 on the season. The Fire used an impressive 2nd quarter in which they outscored the Royals 31-2 to secure the victory.

Taylah Simmons led the way for the Fire in the early going as she scored 21 points in the first half. Simmons wasted no time to get going as she went 9-10 from the field and also found her teammates on four assists. Senior Marlena Schmidt made her presence known with a first half double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Schmidt would add to her total to finish with a season-high 21 points and tied her season-high with 16 rebounds.

As a team Southeastern only missed 15 shots in the first half leading to a 59.5 shooting percentage. Additionally, the Fire took the ball away from the Royals 13 times which led to 22 points.

It was more of the same for Southeastern in the second half. Simmons added six more to finish with 27 points. The Fire bench led the way in the second half, scoring 22 points en route to the victory. Angelina Hammond, Haley Howarth, and Trisha Jacobs combined to score 30 points off the bench.

The Fire don't play again until December 16th when they host No.10 University of St. Francis at 2:00 pm.
