CHANDLER, Ariz.—The No. 7 Fire wrestling team went 4-0 during its trip to the Cascade Duals, hosted by Embry-Riddle (Ariz.) on Sunday.
Southeastern defeated Eastern Oregon 22-20, the 11
th-ranked hosts 26-11, No. 14 Providence 22-18, and Arizona Christian 42-6.
Against Eastern Oregon, the Fire led 16-9, getting a pin from
Jaaziel Santana, a major decision from
Dylan Chatterton, and decisions from
Olson Delisca and
Andreus Bond. The Mountaineers came back with a technical fall, a decision, and a pin in three of the next four matches to lead 20-19 heading to the final bout.
Silas Root scored a third period escape after riding out his opponent in the second period to win 2-0 and give the Fire the win.
Southeastern won seven of the 10 matches against Embry-Riddle, getting bonus points from Jacquan English at 141 with a technical fall, and a forfeit at 125.
The highlight against Providence was Chatterton's 11-4 victory over top ranked Casey Dobson at 157. Chatterton scored three takedowns and picked up four nearfall points during the match. Dobson's four points all came on escapes.
Coleman Bryant picked up a major decision with a 9-0 victory at 174 as well.
Against Arizona Christian, the Fire won nine matches, getting a first period fall from
Isaac Crowell at 125, a second period fall from
Drew Bowker, and a second period fall from
Silas Root. SEU scored bonus points in seven of its nine wins.
The Fire are now 10-3 on the season and will return to action on January 10
th at the NWCA National Duals in Louisville.
