Thanksgiving Trio on Deck for Men’s Basketball

LAKELAND, Fla.—The Fire men's basketball team will play three games this week on the heels of a 3-0 week last week to improve its overall record to 5-1 on the year.

Southeastern will host Our Lady of the Lake Tuesday afternoon before making its annual trek to the NAIA Division II Showcase in Tennessee.

Last week, Southeastern shot 40% from the field and connected on 20 3-pointers. Additionally, the Fire made 56 free throws with their opponents attempting just 42 with 28 makes.

Senior Blake Morrow averaged 20.7 points over the three victories and averaged 4.7 rebounds per game. Morrow has scored 20 or more in four of his six games this season.

Karl Jeanty raised his season average to 10.3 points per game with 33 points over his last three games. He also had 24 total rebounds, connected on 4-of-7 from long range, and had nine steals.

For the season, Southeastern has held its six opponents to a field goal percentage of 39.7%, which is 12th best in NAIA Division II basketball. The Fire are also in the Top 25 in rebounding (42.6 per game), and defensive rebounding (30.8 per game).

The Fire host NAIA Division I Our Lady of the Lake at 1 p.m. on Tuesday as they look to remain unbeaten at The Furnace. The Saints sit at 2-4 on the year with an overtime win over Oklahoma City and a 12-point win at home over Southern-New Orleans.

OLLU has struggled defensively, allowing 84.5 points per game with opponents shooting 47.7% from the field, and succeeding on 54 3-point attempts. The Saints have generated 143 free throw attempts this season, which is more than twice the amount of successful free throws their opponents have.

Southeastern is 5-3 all-time at the NAIA Division II Showcase, having participated in each of the previous four held at the MeadowView Conference Center in Kingsport.

Friday's opponent is the Bearcats of Brescia, which sit at 1-4 entering its game tonight at home against Wilberforce. Brescia opened the year with a 23-point win over Crowley's Ridge, but a difficult schedule has yielded four straight losses to teams with a combined 23-10 record. Things won't get much easier with Bethel (Tenn.), the Fire, and Coastal Georgia this week.

The Bearcats have four players averaging between 10-12 points per game and haven't had much luck from outside, only converting 29.9% from 3-point range.

Washington Adventist caught the eye of the entire college basketball world when it shocked NCAA Division I Howard 71-68 on November 5th. The Shock are 6-1 on the season with their only loss to NAIA Division I No. 1 Georgetown by eight in a game they led by 13 with 2:07 left in the first half.

WAU is led by Xavier Sewell at 18.6 points and 5.7 rebounds per game, and is a 57% shooter. In just 34 games with the Shock, Sewell has 585 points, has dished out 97 assists, recorded 52 steals, and blocked 16 shots.

The next home game for the Fire after Tuesday will be on December 5th as Sun Conference play resumes with Webber International.
