Women's Basketball Earn Their Second TSC Victory Against CCGA

BRUNSWICK, Ga. - The No. 2 ranked Southeastern women's basketball team defeated Sun Conference opponent Coastal Georgia 88-40 this Thursday afternoon.

The Fire opened up the game strong as in the first 40 seconds, SEU recorded a three-pointer, a steal, and two-point lay-up. SEU took a quick 5-0 lead over CCGA, forcing the Mariners to take a timeout.

Returning from the break, Coastal Georgia's Quira Porter would score a lay-up to put the Mariners on the board. Southeastern went on a 15-point streak, closing out the remainder of the first quarter and leading 20-2 over the Mariners.

In the first quarter, there were two occasions when the Fire lead by 20-points, however midway in the second quarter, the Mariners were able to cut the lead to 14-points.

Southeastern finished the second quarter with another 20 points. Coastal Georgia was able to put 15 points on the board. At halftime, SEU led 40-17.

After two quarters of play, the Fire were shooting efficiently as they were 11-20 and shooting 55% in the field. Compared to the Mariners, who were 6-21 and 28% in the field.

Junior forward, Taylah Simmons lead the team's offense with five successful field goals out of six attempts, and a total of four steals.

Shooting guard, Reagan Linster shot 3-5, and all her efforts were from the three-point line. Linster lead the team in both offensive (2) and defensive (3) rebounds with a total of five.

Coming back from the break, the Fire went on a 6-point run to advance their lead to 29, thanks to M'caela Sellers and Simmons. With the score 46-22 for SEU, the Fire went on a 12-point streak to advance their lead.

Southeastern finished out the third quarter with a 61-24 lead, outscoring their opponents 21-7 in ten minutes of play.

The Fire continued their momentum in the final quarter, as the biggest lead of the game was seen with 2:22 remaining in the game. Jade Odom would sink a basket from the three-point line to give the Fire a 86-33 lead.

In the second half, the Fire were 11-14, shooting 78.6% from the free-throw line.

At the end of regulation time, the Fire beat the Mariners 88-40. Southeastern now advance to 5-2 overall on the season, and 2-0 in conference play.

Southeastern finished the afternoon with a total of 39 rebounds, Linster lead the team with 12 total. The sophomore-guard, Linster was second on the team for points with 19.

Point guard, Eliza West lead the team in assists with five of the fifteen the Fire obtained. 

The Fire will be back in action on Saturday November 23rd as they play in Thomasville, Ga. against TSC opponents Thomas. Game is set to start at 2 p.m.
