Women's Basketball Set to Host St. Thomas on Saturday

LAKELAND, Fla.- After playing its first five contests on the road, three of which were against NAIA Division I or II top-five teams, the NAIA DII No. 2 Southeastern University women's basketball is set to open up play at home and in Sun Conference play. The Fire welcome the receiving votes St. Thomas University Bobcats to The Furnace for a Saturday evening showdown.'

FIRE FOCUS:
  • In all three of their wins this season, the Fire have eclipsed the 70-point mark, while in both of their losses, SEU was held under 70 points scored.
  • Junior forward Taylah Simmons has been a double-digit scorer in every contest thus far for the Fire, averaging 18.2 points per game. The Wagner transfer is also averaging a team-best 9.2 rebounds per contest.
  • Sophomore guard Raegan Linster is averaging 12.4 points per contest in her second season with Southeastern.
  • Freshman guard Haley Howarth has opened up the year shooting an impressive 60% (15-25) from three-point range. Howarth is averaging 10.2 points per game coming off the bench for SEU in four of the five games played thus far.
  • Southeastern has won 62-straight games against Sun Conference opponents.
  • The last time the Fire lost to a TSC team was February 10, 2016 against Thomas (70-64).

ALL-TIME SERIES:
  • SEU leads the all-time series versus STU 12-11, although the Fire have won 10-straight in the series.
  • The last time the Fire lost to the Bobcats was on January 3, 2015 in Miami Gardens (70-54).
  • Senior center Marlena Schmidt grabbed eight or more rebounds in both meetings against the Bobcats last season.

THE BOBCATS:
  • The 2019-20 St. Thomas squad features six newcomers, one of which is junior forward Kylie Vogel. The six-foot transfer from Danville Community College has posted 10 points and 11 rebounds in each of the Bobcats' first two outings.
  • Sophomore guard Samaria Auguste posted 15 points in her season debut.
  • The Bobcats collected two wins over Johnson University of Florida to kick things off this season.
