Women's Volleyball Wins Three Straight

LAKELAND, Fla. - The Southeastern University women's volleyball team earned a 3-1 victory against TSC rivals Keiser on Saturday afternoon. The Fire advance to 11-5 on the season, with a 4-3 record in conference play. 

Southeastern would take the first set 25-21 against the Seahawks. The Fire would look to continue their momentum in the second set. Southeastern would get ahead early on in play, and would finish with a 25-17 victory, taking a two-game advantage over Keiser.

The Fire attack played a key role in the second set, as five SEU players hit over a percentage of .300. With senior captain, Emily Kalmink hitting over .500 and Sarah Castollo earning 16 total assists in the first two sets of play.

SEU totaled 15 kills in the second set, in comparison to Keiser's 11 kills. The Fire also hit a .393 percentage in the second.

The Seahawks would not go down quietly, as Keiser worked back to win the third set 25-21 over the Fire. The third set would see seven tie scores and three lead changes.

An asset for the Seahawks was sophomore-setter, Brooklyn VandeHei as she finished the day with a total of 41 assists. Another key player for Keiser was Jordan Odom who recorded 13 kills and a hitting percentage of .385.

After a disappointing loss in the third set, the Fire looked to bounce back and end the day with a victory over Keiser. Southeastern would jump in front at the beginning of the set, and would continue their momentum throughout, earning a 25-15 win over KU.

The Fire would end the day with 49 kills and 42 assists. Leading Southeastern's attack was Kalmink, Taylor Gregory, and Emily Boehlin.

Southeastern will return to action on October 9th as they head on the road to play Florida Memorial. The game is set to start at 7 p.m.
