LAKELAND, Fla.—The Southeastern University volleyball team had already played four sets against Trinity Christian, but hadn't had enough.
Following a 3-1 loss to Trinity Christian, the Fire came back from a 2-1 deficit against Loyola to win the fourth in extra points, then won the fifth by the score of 24-22.
In the fourth set, the Fire lost two set points, but won a match point, when they were down 26-25, and got kills from
Hannah Kaszubowski and
Emily Boehlein to force the fifth.
Boehlein led the Fire with 16 kills, and assisted on three blocks.
Loyola held a 9-4 lead in the fifth, but the Fire answered with a 7-1 run to lead 11-10, taking advantage of three attack errors by the Wolf Pack. As the match went on, nine match points were won by the teams, including five by the Fire, getting a kill from Kaszubowski, then an ace from the junior to close out the night.
Kaszubowski had 14 kills to go along with 23 digs.
Loyola (12-16) took the first set 25-17 by hitting .300 in the set, and the Fire took the second by the same count, hitting a whopping .417.
Things changed for the Fire in the third, matching their eight kills with eight errors in a 25-19 loss.
Maggie Seagren returned after missing three weeks with a season-best 14 kills, and added three digs and three blocks.
Elise Moralobo had a career-high 20 digs, marking her third-straight double-digit dig effort.
Sarah Castillo dished out a career-best 57 assists, and added 16 digs.
Against Trinity Christian, the Fire started strong, hitting .290 with 13 kills in a 25-17 win. The Trolls (18-7) were nearly unstoppable in the second, racking up 20 kills with a .267 hitting percentage in a 25-22 win. TCC took the next two sets 25-19 and 25-22 to close out the match.
Boehlein led the offense with 15 kills and hit .286. Castillo had 38 assists, and added an ace, a kill, and nine digs. Kaszubowski led the back row with 20 digs.
Wednesday, the Fire will head to Coastal Georgia for a key Sun Conference matchup against the first-place Mariners.
