Men’s Soccer Remains Unbeaten after Draw at Johnson & Wales

MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—In a game that finished with just nine a side due to red cards, the Fire earned a point in The Sun Conference standings with a 2-2 tie at Johnson & Wales.

Down a goal at the intermission, Southeastern (10-0-2) got the equalizer off of a set piece that was served by Julian Hall, touched by Jake Van Der Luit, and put into the back of the net by Skylar Funk for his third goal of the season in the 61st minute.

Playing a man down in the 81st minute, Van Der Luit received a long pass from Craig Barker and chipped the goalkeeper to give the Fire a 2-1 lead on his 14th goal of the season.

"Any time you come to Johnson & Wales it's going to be a tough game," said coach Clay Roberts. "I'm proud of us for going on the road and getting a good result against a good team.

For us, we didn't play a great first half but in the second half and overtime kind of grit it out."

Four minutes later, the Wildcats were awarded a penalty kick, and tied the game.

Southeastern outshot Johnson & Wales 30-13, and 12-6 on target.

The Fire return to action on the road Wednesday against SCAD.
