SAVANNAH, Ga. - The No. 9 ranked Southeastern men's soccer team was defeated by TSC opponent SCAD 1-0 Wednesday evening.
This marks the first loss of the season, as the Fire have been undefeated thus far.
Within the first 10 minutes of the game, Southeastern saw an opportunity as a SCAD defender took a poor touch, which was then intercepted by Chase Hovious and lead to a shot by Jake Van Der Luit. Then, just six minutes later, the SCAD goalie would come up with a big save as Van Der Luit bicycle kicked from a cross by Craig Barker.
Shortly after, SCAD would have a chance as a player would serve the ball to his teammate just shy of the 18-yard box, and the shot would go just wide of the post.
With less than 10 minutes to go in the first half, a powerful cross by Barker would force the keeper off his line to make a save, with the rebound going to Johan Jimenez, the keeper would come up with a save to keep the game tied at 0-0.
At the two-minute mark, SCAD found themselves on a break away and was shut down by Southeastern goalkeeper Logan Whitney. At the intermission, the two teams remained scoreless.
Both teams were head-to-head for the first 20 minutes of the second half. Until the Bees attack would cross a ball to find the head of a Matteo Tizzano just outside the 6-yard box. Whitney would try to make a save near the cross bar of the goal, but unfortunately it got to an opponent's feet to end up in the back of the net.Â
The game remained 1-0 for the Bees, despite Southeastern's tenacity towards the goal to get one on the board. With just 10 minutes remaining in the game, SEU had a shot towards goal which was saved by a SCAD defender a step from the goal line. A last minute effort was seen by the Fire, as Barker hit a 40-yard ball through to Van Der Luit, with two players defending him, Van Der Luit got a shot off just going wide of the post.
Southeastern registered 19 shots, with eight on goal. SCAD's goalkeeper ended the night with a clean sheet, as he saved all eight shots on net by the Fire.
The Fire are now 10-1-2 on the season. They will be back in action on October 23rd as they play against Georgia Gwinnett. Game is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
