LAKELAND, Fla.—The Fire wrestling team will participate in the 2019 NWCA Multi-Divisional National Duals, known as Mat Mayhem at historic Freedom Hall in Louisville.
A total of 84 teams will participate over the weekend, with brackets of Division II, Division III, NJCAA, and women in addition to the NAIA.
The Fire are on the bottom half of the bracket and are matched up against No. 9 Midland University in the first round of the double-elimination tournament at 11 a.m. on Friday.
Midland has wrestlers ranked in the top five at 125, 133, and 141. David Berg placed third at 133 last season, and is second at 141 this year. That's where SEU has its highest-ranked wrestler in
Ethan Owen at sixth.
Jaaziel Santana is 13
th at 125, and will likely see No. 5 Jonas Gaytan.
In the second round, Southeastern will face either No. 2 Indiana Tech or Cumberland University. Indiana Tech has wrestlers ranked in the top five at each of their bottom four weight classes with Sawyer Miller second at 125 and Erique Early third at 133.
With a win, the Fire will wrestle at 1 p.m. or at 3 p.m. with a loss. A win during the 3 p.m. match would give Southeastern one more dual where a win would advance the team to Saturday's action.
Making up the rest of SEU's half of the bracket are No. 17 Baker, No. 7 Life, No. 17 Marian, and No. 4 Providence. Seven-time defending National Duals champion Grand View is the top overall seed.
All duals are available via TrackWrestliing on a pay-per-view basis.
