Men’s Basketball Heads to Georgia for Sun Conference Contests

LAKELAND, Fla.—The Southeastern University men's basketball team jumps back into Sun Conference play this week atop the league standings and ranked eighth in the NAIA Division II Coaches' Poll.

With a 12-3 record, which includes a perfect 5-0 Sun Conference record, the Fire can expect to get each opponent's best shot over the last two months of the season.

In conference play, the Fire have posted the best 3-point shooting percentage at 40.9%. Additionally, nobody has made more free throws than SEU, connecting on 121 and converting 78.1%.

The only team in the conference that's attempted as many free throws as the Fire is Thursday's opponent.

Thomas checks in with an 8-6 record and is 4-2 in league play. Both conference losses were on the road and by less than 10. The Night Hawks are 4-1 at home, and just wrapped up a five-game stretch away from Thomasville.

Trint Bryant made a big impact in his first two games with Thomas, scoring 19 points against Xavier (La.) and 24 against Southern-New Orleans. He joins Joshua Scott and Dexter Hood, who both average better than 17 points per game to form a dangerous scoring group.

The Fire will travel to Coastal Georgia for Saturday's game. The Mariners also have a 4-2 conference record. The two losses came at home to Warner by six and Webber International by five. CCGA sports one of the better defensive teams in the conference, ranking 17th in NAIA Division II in field goal defense at 41.4%, and 29th in scoring defense at 73.4 points per game.

Individually, Austin Dukes averages 10.6 points, seven rebounds, and three assists per game.

Following the two-game stand in Georgia, the Fire will be back home on January 10th to host St. Thomas.
