Strong Second Half Propels Fire Past Warriors

No. 5 Southeastern Continues Sun Conference Dominance with Win Over Webber

Box Score LAKELAND, Fla. – On a day where the Fire forced 20 turnovers defensively and hit 15 three-pointers on the offensive glass, the No. 5 Southeastern University women's basketball team cruised to an 87-58 victory over the Webber International University Warriors. SEU improved to 11-0 in Sun Conference play with the victory and have now won 53 consecutive contests versus TSC opponents.

The Warriors trailed the Fire 17-9 after the first quarter of play.

SEU continued to stifle WIU defensively in the second quarter, forcing eight Warriors' turnovers in the period. The Fire forced 15 of the 20 Warriors' turnovers during the first half.

Senior guard Jaycee Coe exploded in the second quarter, dropping 12 of her game-leading 26 points during the 10-minute stretch.
Southeastern led Webber International 40-23 at the intermission.

For the second consecutive game, the Fire starkly improved upon their perimeter shooting in the second half. In the first half, Southeastern shot 30% (6-20) from behind the arc, while shooting 64.3% (9-14) from three-point range in the second half.

Freshman guard Raegan Linster posted her second consecutive game in double-digits, scoring eight of her 10 points in the second half to go along with eight rebounds, a career-high.

The Fire used a 9-1 run to conclude the third quarter to take a commanding 68-45 lead into the final period of play.

Southeastern grew its lead to as many as 31 in the fourth quarter, while Webber International never cut the deficit to any less than 24.

Senior guard Elsa Paulsson-Glantz finished the night with 14 points, eight rebounds, and five assists. Starting for the Fire this evening, senior guard Emma Karamovic scored 13 and registered three assists.

The Fire are back in The Furnace next Thursday night, as they host the Keiser University Seahawks at 5:30 p.m.
