LAKELAND, Fla.—Following an impressive showing at Mat Mayhem, the Fire wrestling team heads back north for a Mid-South Conference dual at Cumberland University.
During the trip to Louisville,
Dylan Chatterton won all five of his matches to improve to 14-3 on the season. The junior is 9-1 in dual matches.
Eddie Barrett wrestled well at 125, picking up three wins including an upset over No. 14 Cagen Wallace to help the Fire beat Lindsey Wilson.
Ethan Owen, and
Xavier Williamson also won three matches each.
The Phoenix sit at 2-5 on the season, following Wednesday's 28-12 loss to fifth-ranked Cumberlands. The Patriots had bonus point wins in three of the first four matches to set the tone.
CU has three ranked wrestlers with Nathan Walton 12
th at 174, Keshawn Laws 17
th at 141, and John Oliveri 19
th at 184.
Last year, the Fire recorded a 24-21 win over the Phoenix during the Fire Duals marking the first time SEU had defeated Cumberland in three attempts. In the prior meeting at the Fire Duals, the Phoenix were a 23-13 winner, and also won the first dual meet that SEU ever participated in with a 40-7 win at Chattanooga.
