BABSON Park, Fla.—In a close Sun Conference Game of the Week with Webber International, RV Southeastern fell in three sets to the Warriors 26-24, 25-21, 25-18. With the loss, the Fire moved to 13-2 and 5-1 in TSC play.
SEU opened the contest with a 12-6 stretch thanks to four straight Warrior errors. Following a timeout, Webber immediately bounced back by winning 14 of the next 17 points, as WIU edged SEU in the first set 26-24.
The second frame, which featured 14 ties, was also determined within the last few points. With the score knotted at 17 apiece, the Warriors registered six kills and zero errors to take the stanza 25-21 and go up 2-0 in the match.
With Webber's offense clicking on all cylinders, Southeastern, who was out-hit .113-.007 on the night, needed a strong defensive effort to attempt any kind of comeback. Four Fire players responded with double-digit dig efforts, led by
Keniah Rivera Santiago's 17; however, the Warriors captured the third set 25-18.
Avery Bradshaw contributed with a near double-double performance, killing nine attack attempts and digging 11, while
Hannah Kaszubowski and
Emily Kalmink each added five kills on .267 and .263 hitting percentages, respectively. Kaszubowski also dug 12 of Webber's attacks.
Overall, WIU collected 38 kills in the match compared to SEU's 28, making the difference in the matchup. Emily Bowen of Webber finished with a match-leading 14 kills along with a team-best .367 hitting percentage.
Southeastern will return home for a competition against Keiser on Saturday. The match is scheduled for 2 p.m. in the Furnace.
