Fire Open Conference Play with No. 23 Keiser

LAKELAND, Fla.— Following a 4-1-1 start through their non-conference schedule, Southeastern men's soccer team will travel to West Palm Beach to battle no. 23 Keiser as they kick off Sun Conference action.

Fire Frenzy:
  • SEU boasts a prolific offense, ranking 24th in the country in assists per game (2.33) and 39th in the NAIA in goals per contest (2.67).
  • With last week's draw against Life University, the Fire continued their unbeaten streak on the road. Southeastern is 5-0-2 in its last seven away competitions, having avoided defeat since 8/29/17 versus Point.
  • Seniors Jake Van Der Luit and Bruno Henrique have led the scoring charge so far this season. Van Der Luit has produced five goals in 2018, including two in the match versus Life, while Henrique ranks tenth in the nation in game-winning goals with two. Henrique also has five assists, which is 12th among NAIA schools.
  • Keeper Jorge Navarrete has tallied three clean sheets in six attempts, ranking 17th in shutouts per game and 19th in total shutouts. The senior blocked a season-high nine shot attempts in the squad's most recent fixture.
 
Keiser:
  • Keiser, who is ranked 23rd in the national poll, comes in with a 4-1-1 record through six matches.
  • The Seahawks are 12-2-2 in their last 16 home matches, including a perfect 1-0 this season. KU defeated Holy Cross 5-1 on August 31st in the only other home competition of 2018 behind a hat-trick by Ciro Damine and two goals by Sebastian Espino.
  • This will be the Seahawks' third contest against teams receiving in the national rankings, as Keiser has faced Lawrence Tech and John Brown already. The squad tied Lawrence Tech 1-1 and beat John Brown 4-1 in their most recent game. KU's only loss came to now no. 5 Mobile by a score of 4-2.
  • Damine, a forward from Santa Fe, Argentina, leads the country in goals (13), game-winning goals (3), goals per game (2.2) and total points (28). The freshman has three hat-tricks and has scored in all but one competition this season, recording four multi-goal games. He also ranks in the top three in points per game (4.7), shots per game (5.2), shots on goal per game (3.2) and game-winners per game (0.5).
 
Previous Meetings:
  • Keiser leads the overall series between the two schools with 13 wins in 18 attempts. The Fire have come away with four victories and there has been one tie.
  • When the two teams have played in West Palm Beach, the Seahawks have won eight of nine, the only exception being a Keiser forfeit in 2012 resulting in a Southeastern triumph.
  • When the squads met last year, the Seahawks took the game in Lakeland by a score of 4-1. Joey Dotson scored the lone goal for SEU.
