Fire Sweep Seahawks to Remain Perfect in Conference Play

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.—Since dropping a five-set thriller to RV Reinhardt, the Fire volleyball team has been perfect. Southeastern has swept all four of its opponents, including Keiser University on Saturday, to improve to 11-1 (3-0 TSC) on the year.

SEU dominated every facet of the game this afternoon, limiting attack errors on offense and blocking strongly on defense. Southeastern out-hit Keiser .286 to .021, while recording 12 total blocks to the Seahawks' two. Five different SEU players registered at least two blocks during the contest.

The Fire utilized runs in every set to establish early leads, winning five consecutive points to start the match. SEU later added a 6-0 stretch to take the first game by a commanding score of 25-15.

More of the same occurred in the second frame, with the Fire using a 9-0 run to go up 12-3 behind two of Emily Boehlein's match-high ten kills. Southeastern would go on to win the second set 25-15, as well.

Looking for a fourth straight sweep, setter Courtney Krause spread the ball around effectively to finish off the Seahawks in three. Seven Southeastern players ended the contest with a kill as the Fire took the final game by a score of 25-19.

"One of the main reasons we were successful today was how we played on offense. Our offense was really clicking. Courtney [Krause] did a great job of identifying our hot hitters in the matchups between our players and Keiser's blockers", said Head Coach Audrey Goldsberry.

Krause added 28 assists, while Avery Bradshaw tied Boehlein with a match-high ten kills, posting a .421 hitting percentage. Keniah Rivera Santiago collected 14 digs, leading the squad in the category for the twelfth time this season, and sophomore Carly Sundt dug a season-best 11 attack attempts.

Southeastern will be back in action when the team heads to Coastal Georgia on Wednesday. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Brunswick.
