The Spartans redeemed themselves in their home opener against Evangel University, after Evangel defeated them in the Spartans' 2017 home opener 1-0.

After a scoreless first half, Victor Rada shot in the Spartans' lone goal twenty minutes into the second half.

Freshman defender Richie Taylor was awarded "Man of the Match" for his part in thwarting the Spartans' attack. Also on the defense, goalkeeper Davide Bucarelli kept the Crusaders out of his team's goal, saving the ball twice.
