Fire Glide Past Skyhawks, Improve to 3-0

No. 6 Southeastern Explodes for 12 Goals in Historic Performance

LAKELAND, Fla. – The No. 6 Southeastern University women's soccer put forth an incredible offensive performance. The Fire defeated the Point University Skyhawks 12-0 to improve to 3-0 on the season and extend their home winning streak to 25 matches.

Four different players found the back of the net for the Fire, as SEU outshot PU 28-3, with 22 of the 28 Fire shots arriving on frame.

"I was impressed with the quality of chances we earned. Our shot to shot on goal ratio was reflective of how efficiently we played. It was a great overall team effort," shared head coach Randy Belli
The Fire struck for three goals in the first 10 minutes of play.

Sophomore forward Aisha Solorzano found the back of the net in the third minute off the cross from redshirt-freshman forward Summer Rusher.

Junior forward Uchenna Kanu registered back-to-back scores in the 4th and 9th minutes off assists by junior defender Melanie Peyton and senior defender Isamar Duran to put SEU ahead 3-0.

Kanu went on to record her second straight four-goal game and now has 10 scores through the first three matches of 2018.

Rusher made her first collegiate start a memorable one, earning a hat trick and recording two assists.

"My teammates had confidence in me which gave me confidence and the ability to stay calm. We connected our passes very well today and played great as a unit," commented Rusher.

The First two goals for the Ludgershall, England native came in the 12th and 17th minutes, assisted by graduate midfielder Gabriela DiDio and Kanu.

Solorzano notched her second score of the contest in the 17th minute as well, to give SEU a 6-0 lead at the half.

Rusher completed the hat trick in the 49th minute, rocketing one in top shelf off the cross from Kanu.

DiDio scored three second half goals to become the third SEU player with a hat trick, finding the back of the net in the 72nd, 73rd, and 77th minutes.

This marked the first time in program history Southeastern had three different players record a hat trick.

A connection from sophomore midfielder Isabel Madson finished in the box by Kanu in the 81st minute put SEU ahead 12-0.

The Fire now hit the road for three consecutive matches. Their next contest is at No. 24 John Brown University next Saturday at 7:00 p.m.
