SAVANNAH, Ga. – In a match where all five goals were netted in the second half, the Southeastern University men's soccer team fell to the Tennessee Wesleyan Bulldogs 3-2 in the SCAD Invitational for their first loss of the season.
The first half was a defensive stalemate between both teams, with the match remaining scoreless at the half. The Fire outshot the Bulldogs 7-3 in the first 45 minutes of play.
Southeastern broke the silence in the 56
th minute, when senior forward
Jake Van Der Luit found the back of the net on an individual effort to put SEU ahead 1-0. The goal was his first of the season.
The Bulldogs retaliated in the 63
rd minute when forward Nick Dimes scored off the dish from forward Ben Timms to tie things up 1-1.
The Fire earned the go-ahead goal in the 70
th minute, as senior forward
Bruno Henrique finished the connection from senior forward
Grayson Wilkes.
However, TWU answered once again when senior forward Gabriel Gonzalez scored unassisted in the 74
th minute.
The Bulldogs took their first lead of the contest in the 86
th minute after forward Harry Baggaley slotted one through off the touch from midfielder Kyle Wynne.
A shot with 41 seconds to go in regulation by Van Der Luit was on frame, but saved by TWU goalkeeper Nick Croucher.
The Fire look to bounce back on their home pitch, as SEU hosts Middle Georgia State in the first game of the SEU Invitational next Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
