Softball Commences Sun Conference Play On Home Turf

LAKELAND, Fla. - After a 5-1 performance in the springbreaksoftball.com NAIA weekend tournament, the Fire are set to embark on the 2018 Sun Conference journey.  The Fire will have all week to prepare for their first Sun Conference games of the season against Webber International University.

The First Pitch

  • Historically, the Fire hold a 4-4 record on the opening day of Sun Conference action.
  • The Fire's pitching staff has been dominate during the team's 10 games.  Southeastern ranks third in all of the NAIA in strikeouts (68).  

  • The staff averages less than a baserunner per inning with a WHIP of .88 on the season.  

  • Hannah Bodenhorn captains the pitching staff with a K/7 of 9.89 and and batting average against of .127.  

  • Ashley Appell has also shined in the circle this season.  The freshman holds a 4-1 record and an ERA of 1.97.  

  • Southeastern is currently outscoring opponents 56-17 in part to their formidable offense.  The Fire are hitting .311 as a team and maintain an OPS of .797.  

  • Brandee Pietrzak is coming off of a big weekend in which she hit .427 and slugged .526.  The senior from New Carlisle, Indiana currently leads the team in RBIs with nine.

  • Ramsey Sullivan and Haleigh Harrell are two freshman that aide the Fire offense.  In nine games, Sullivan is hitting .412.  Harrell, who was named conference play of the week last week, is hitting .500 with an OPS of 1.251.  

  • Seasoned players like Sam Holcomb and Heather Faulk are a tandem that the Fire are glad to have back in the lineup.  The two women combine for a batting average on balls in play of .457.  

  • Since the inception of the program, the Fire lead the all time regular season series against Webber International 10-7.

  • The Warriors are led by their new head coach Laura Tucker.  Tucker possesses a coaching record of 77-34.  

  • Webber is coming off of a 10-0 routing of Olivet Nazarene University.  During that game Laura Borders propelled the Warriors with a 3-4 performance which included a home run.  

  • Borders finished the 2017 season hitting .368.  This year she is off to an impressive start hitting .556 with an astonishing OPS of 1.778 through three games.   

  • Megan Isoba and Meghan Lindell both provide their fair share of offensive production as well.  Isoba, who hit a mere .263 in 2017, is producing early collecting three hits in her seven at bats.  Lindell is hitting .375 with an ISO of .125.  

  • The Warriors have yet to surrender a run to their opponents.  Combined, both Sabrina Hebding and Raven White have only allowed nine hits and are holding opposing hitters to a .141 batting average.  

  • During her last start against Stratford, Hebding only allowed three hits while striking out two.   

  • Webber International will play a four game weekday series against Cincinnati Christian before squaring off against the Fire.
