The First Pitch
  • The tandem inside the circle of Hannah Bodenhorn and Ashley Appell proved to be a difficult puzzle to solve for hitters this past weekend.  Bodenhorn dealt the Fire's first no-hitter of the 2018 season in game one against Trinity Baptist, while Appell only surrendered two hits during her first collegiate win.
  • Through four games the Fire's pitching staff holds a WHIP of .857 and a BABIP (Batting average on balls in play) of .196.
  • Coupled with the seasoned veterans, the Fire's newcomers have added a boost to the offensive attack.  Haleigh Harrell and Sam Holcomb combine for a batting average of .718. Both women are also tied for the team lead in home runs.
  • As a whole, the Fire hold an OPS of 1.148 and and ISO, which measures raw power and how often a player/team hits for extra bases, of .267.  At the moment, Harrell leads the Fire in ISO at .693.
  • Utilizing the speed all throughout the lineup, the Fire are a perfect 12-12 on stolen base attempts.
  • The Fire rank sixth in all of the NAIA in stolen bases per game (3.00).
  • Southeastern battled Point last year at a neutral site and was able to collect a 5-3 win.
  • The Skyhawks are in the midst of a two game slide with their most recent loss coming against Southern Wesleyan.
  • Shae Pendley leads the offensive charge for the Skyhawks positing a .545 batting average and ISO of .728.  The native of Chatsworth, Georgia leads the team two home runs and seven RBIs.
  • Inside the circle, Allie Beilstein holds a 2-1 record this season while striking out 23.7% the batters she faced.
  • Olivet Nazarene will square off against the Sun Conference members Ave Maria and Warner before battling the Fire.
  • Last season, Olivet Nazarene finished with a 32-14 record.
  • Olivet Nazarene is the alma mater of Southeastern head coach Anna Welsh.
  • Dating back to 2016, the Fire and Tigers met in the Opening Round.  The Fire captured an 11-6 victory over the Tigers, on their way to a third place finish in the World Series.
  • The Tigers return their most valuable asset both inside the circle and in the batter's box.  During the 2017 season, Emily Carstens posted a team leading .417 batting average and four home runs.  On the rubber, Carstens struck out 18.8% of the batters she faced and tallied a BABIP of .255.
  • Miranda Southall returns for her sophomore year with the Tigers.  Last year she collected 36 RBIs all while slugging .545.
  • Middle Georgia State finished 13 games below .500 for the 2017 season.  Thus far, the Knights played a pair of tightly contested games against Sun Conference member Coastal Georgia.
  • Sabrina Doucette posted a pair of 2-3 performances at the plate.  This year the Perry, Georgia native is hitting. 667.
  • Meagan Coleman secured the Knights lone win of the season inside the circle.  Coleman carries a WHIP of 1.3.
  • In the postseason poll last year, William Carey was rank seventh in all of the NAIA.  The Crusaders enter the 2018 season ranked tied for eighth.
  • Last year the Fire and the Crusaders squared off on day two of the Opening Round bracket.  A seventh inning rally capped off by a Heather Faulk walk-of single, helped Southeastern capture a nail biting 3-2 victory.
  • The Crusaders return one of their top offensive contributors, Branda Northrop.  Last year, Northrop posted a .391 average with 75 hits.
  • Pitching is an element of the game that the Crusaders are known for.  Both Lindsey Johnson and Hannah Moak have combined to hold hitters to a .145 batting average.
  • The tandem combines for a WHIP south of one.
  • Through two games, Katelyn Thompson leads the offense with an average of .600.
  • As a collective group the Crusaders rank 20th in all of the NAIA in runs scored per game.
