NEWBERRY, S.C.—The Fire wrestling team scored four wins against NCAA Division II squads at the Newberry Duals on Sunday.
First, the Fire avenged a five-point loss from last season to Limestone with a 51-6 victory over the Saints, getting bonus points in all six of its wins.
Ethan Owen and
Jason Davis both recorded first period pins.
The match against Queens was much closer than the 30-15 final indicated, with SEU getting 18 points from forfeits. An 8-0 major decision by
Jake Watters at 149 and a 22-5 technical fall at 157 by
Kyle Kirkham helped the Fire come away with the win.
Southeastern also picked up a 38-9 win over Emmanuel getting pins from
Xavier Williamson, who needed just 27 seconds to score six match points, along with
Carlos Diaz at 174 and
Jesse Pryor at 197. Owen also had a 17-0 tech fall.
The day closed with a 28-9 win over Coker College, with Owen scoring his second pin of the day.
Zech Rives scored a 15-6 major at 184 to also come away with bonus points.
The Fire return to action next Saturday at home against No. 15 Lindsey Wilson.
