Fire Head To Kingsport for NAIA Showcase

No. 3 Southeastern Looks to Tackle Non-Conference Tests

LAKELAND, Fla. – The No. 3 Southeastern University women's basketball team opened up Sun Conference play with a pair of resounding wins last week. The Fire downed Webber International 88-62 on the road before defeating Warner 71-53 in The Furnace for their home opener. Southeastern has now won 44 consecutive contests versus Sun Conference opponents. The Fire take a break from TSC action to travel to Kingsport, Tennessee. Southeastern competes in The Show- NAIA Division II Showcase for the third consecutive year.

FIRE FOCUS:
  • With the 4-0 start this season, Southeastern has extended its regular season-win streak to 57 games.
  • The Fire have been dialed in from the perimeter thus far, shooting .407 from three-point range which ranks sixth in NAIA Division II. Senior shooting guard Hailee Printz has successfully converted eight of her first nine three-point attempts to open up the season.
  • Senior small forward Elsa Paulsson-Glantz leads SEU with 19.8 points per game. Her 29 and 24 point performances versus Webber International and Warner last week earned her distinction as The Sun Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week.
  • Defensively, the Fire rank ninth in NAIA DII in field goal percentage defense (.328) and 10th in steals per game (13.5).
  • Three different players already have double digits in steals, including senior guard Jaycee Coe, who averages three swipes per game.
  • Junior center Marlena Schmidt has scored 32 points and hauled in 18 rebounds over her last two contests.

ALL-TIME SERIES:
  • This marks just the second meeting all-time between Southeastern and Taylor. The Fire defeated the Trojans 72-56 in the first meeting back on 11/14/16.
  • Junior guard Trisha Jacobs is the only current member of the SEU roster to have played in that contest versus Taylor.
  • This marks the first ever meeting between Southeastern and Washington Adventist.

THE TROJANS:
  • Taylor snapped a seven-year absence in the NAIA National Tournament last season, advancing all the way to the Round of 16 in Sioux City before bowing out to second-seeded Concordia (Neb.).
  • TU has returned 10 lettermen from last year's squad and three starters, as well as four of its top-six scorers.
  • The Trojans are off to their first 7-1 start since 2012-13, having scored wins over No. 18 Olivet Nazarene (93-74) and RV IU East (73-68).
  • Senior forward Kendall Bradbuy has done it all for TU, leading the team in points per game (21.5), rebounds per game (9), steals (13), and blocks (4).
  • Taylor averages 12.5 three point field goals made per contest which ranks fourth in NAIA DII.

THE SHOCK:
  • Washington Adventist posted its first winning season as an NAIA program last year with a 19-12 2017-18 campaign.
  • After starting 0-2 this season, the Shock have rattled off four-straight victories.
  • WAU has defended well thus far, ranking seventh in three-point field goal defense (.218) and 13th in overall field goal defense (.329).
  • Sophomore center Amber Morman is averaging a double-double per game, with averages of 18 points and 14 rebounds per outing.
  • Senior center Monica Chica is averaging a block per game.
