LAKELAND, Fla.—Following a come from behind triumph over Keiser on Saturday, the (RV) Fire will host the Ave Maria Gyrenes in the Furnace Tuesday night.

GAME INFO:

Date: Tuesday, October 2nd, 2018
Time: 7 p.m.
Location: Lakeland, Fla. (The Furnace)

The Fire:

  • SEU rebounded after dropping just its second match of the year by fighting back in a four-set victory against Keiser.
  • Against the Seahawks, the Fire blocked 17 KU attacks, a season-high, while averaging over four blocks per set for the first time this season. Emily Kalmink tied her career high with eight blocks and Taylor Gregory, who ranks fifth in the NAIA in blocks per game, recorded a season-high nine stuffs.
  • Southeastern's blocking defense has exploded as of late. After registering just three double-digit block totals as a team through 11 matches, the Fire have tallied at least ten blocks in three of their last five competitions. SEU ranks ninth in the country in blocks per game (2.5).
  • The Fire have the top three blockers in the Sun Conference in Gregory (1.3 blocks per set), Kalmink (1.1 blocks per set) and Emily Boehlein (0.7 blocks per set). Gregory has rejected at least five opponents' attacks in nine matches this year, and has done so in five of the last seven contests.

The Gyrenes:

  • Ave Maria comes into the Furnace riding a six-game losing streak, but should have some confidence after taking a set from conference-leading Webber International in Babson Park.
  • In the road contest against the Warriors, five different AMU players recorded double-digit dig efforts, including a massive 19 dig performance by Daniela Jaramillo. Thanks to the defensive effort, the Gyrenes rank third in the conference in digs per set (17.3).
  • Jaramillo, who leads the team with 164 digs and has dug at least ten attacks in eight matches this season, has also added an assist in every contest and has aces in her last four.
  • Despite the 1-6 start in conference play, the Gyrenes should pick up a few more wins in league play due to the fact that five of their seven conference matches this season have been against teams in the top four spots.

Previous Meetings:

  • The Fire and the Gyrenes have met 19 times since 2008. Southeastern holds the lead in the series with a 16-3 record, having not dropped a set to AMU in the last ten competitions (2012).
  • In games played in the Furnace between the two teams, SEU is 9-1 and has won the last eight. Southeastern has not lost to Ave Maria in Lakeland since 2009.
