CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky.—With their team in a six-point hole, it was up to a pair of upperclassmen at the top of the Southeastern lineup to secure a road dual win.
Two guys that have been with SEU wrestling from the start combined to tally nine team points to give the Fire a thrilling 21-18 comeback win over Campbellsville.
At 197, Nate Cleland grinded out a 4-1 win, which included scoring a reversal in the final 30 seconds of the third period to extend his advantage and secure his third win of the year. Cleland also hung on earlier to prevent Jacob Franklin from scoring an escape.
Aris Knight just needed a decision, which would give the Fire their sixth win and the match by the tiebreaker, but did one better. The senior scored the lone bonus points for the Fire by recording a first period pin, taking advantage of an aggressive shot by Nate Jackson.
Southeastern (9-5) got off to a fast start with a 10-3 decision by
Olson Delisca (9-1) at 125 and a 7-5 decision by
Ethan Owen (11-4) at 133.
Kyle Kirkham and
Matthew Cates picked up 10-5 and 9-4 decisions at 149 and 165, respectively.
The Fire head 19 miles south to take on Lindsey Wilson and Ellsworth Community College tomorrow evening.
