Boyd Bumps Volleyball Past Warner

LAKELAND, Fla.—Southeastern picked up its first Sun Conference volleyball win of the year with a straight-sets win over Warner at The Furnace Wednesday night.

The Fire defeated their Polk County rival 25-23, 25-22, 25-18.

Senior middle blocker Kaitlin Boyd put together a monster night to help the victorious effort. The Lakeland native finished with 14 kills on 19 swings with a .684 attacking percentage. Additionally, Boyd added two solo blocks, assisted on four others, and picked up a dig and an assist.

Boyd and classmate Kelsey Morton each picked up four kills in the first set, helping the Fire hold off the Royals.

Southeastern committed eight attacking errors in the opening set, but had much more precision in the second, generating 13 kills on 35 swings with three errors, netting a .286 team attacking percentage.

The Fire fell behind 3-0 in the second set, but answered with a 5-1 run, benefiting from two attack errors by Warner, and an ace by Keniah Rivera-Santiago. A 5-0 run by the Fire got them out of a 7-5 deficit, and built a 10-7 lead. Three of those points came from the serve of Hannah Kinlaw, who finished with four aces and 10 digs on the night.

The third set was controlled by the Fire, which had 16 kills in the final set, and held Warner to just five with eight attacking errors.

Freshman Kaity Reed added 12 kills and a .300 attacking percentage to the offense. Natalie Anderson had 20 assists on 44 kills, with Courtney Krause adding 17 to go along with her six kills.

Rivera-Santiago and Kiana Sawtelle each had 13 digs to lead the back row.

The Fire host St. Thomas on Saturday at 2 p.m.
