Volleyball Drops Five Set Thriller to Warriors

Fire Battle Hard, Fall in Conference Opener on the Road

Box Score BABSON Park, Fla. – In what was a five set thriller, the Southeastern University volleyball team dropped their Sun Conference opener on the road to the defending league champion RV Webber International University Warriors.

The Fire weathered a tough start in the first set, committing five errors and finding themselves down 16-7 before dropping the opening set 25-17.

SEU responded in the following set by battling in a back and forth affair with WIU. The Fire executed their attacks in a tremendous way, posting a .429 kill percentage (15-28) in the set. Four of those kills came from senior Kaitlin Boyd, who led the Fire with 13 kills in the match.

Boyd's final kill of the second set gave the Fire a 27-26 advantage before an attack error earned Southeastern the 28-26 set win.

After trailing 17-10 at one point in the third set, SEU fought back to tie things up 23-23. However, back to back kills by Webber freshman Cameron Neely gave the Warriors the set 25-23.

A ten error performance by WIU in the fourth set helped SEU take the fourth set 27-25 and force a fifth and final set.

After opening up the fifth set with a 10-8 advantage, the Warriors stormed back to outscore the fire 7-2 and take the match.

Junior Keniah Rivera Santiago led all players in digs with 19 while senior Kelsey Morton led the way in blocks with four.

The Fire now travel back to The Furnace to host the Warner University Royals next Wednesday night. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
