HARDEEVILLE, S.C.—Southeastern dropped its first game of the season to Tennessee Wesleyan in overtime at the SCAD Invitational by the count of 2-1.
The Fire fell behind 1-0 on a goal in the 20
th minute of play, and were outshot 6-4 in the first half of play.
Southeastern picked up the equalizer from
Jake Van Der Luit in the 59
th minute of play. The Fire then had to survive a barrage of shots in the final 13 minutes, with keeper Jorge Navarette having to make four saves in that span to force overtime.
Tennessee Wesleyan (1-1) outshot Southeastern 10-5 in the second half.
Despite getting an early look in the extra session on a header by
Tauan Salgado, the Fire were unable to keep the pressure up. The winning goal was scored in the 94
th minute of play.
Navarette finished the game with seven saves.
The Fire are back in action on Saturday against St. Andrews University.
